Safety Device Information

About the safety device description

Ōtō Kōtsūsha has recently introduced new buses equipped with the latest safety systems, including collision mitigation brakes and lane departure prevention systems. By adopting these highly safe buses, we aim to provide our passengers with an even safer, more secure, and comfortable travel experience.

Collision Mitigation braking

This system uses radar to monitor the distance to and speed of the vehicle ahead. When a risk of collision is detected, an audible warning alerts the driver to an obstacle ahead. If the driver does not respond, the system issues an alert and gently applies the brakes to encourage a response. If the driver still does not respond and a collision is judged to be unavoidable, the system applies stronger braking along with an alert to reduce the impact and minimize damage.

Lane Departure Warning System

If the vehicle is about to drift out of its lane while driving, the system alerts the driver with a warning. Accidents caused by lane departure are very dangerous and can lead to serious injuries or death.
This system is especially effective on highways, where long stretches of straight roads can lead to inattentive driving.

Driver Attention Monitoring System

The Driver Attention Monitoring System is a next-generation safety feature designed to help prevent accidents caused by reduced attentiveness. A camera installed inside the bus monitors the driver’s actions including lane swaying, steering corrections, and use of turn signals and evaluates them as a whole. The system continuously monitors the driver’s level of attention using intelligent logic. If reduced attentiveness is detected, a warning is issued to alert the driver.

New MDAS (Driver Attention Monitor with Driver Monitoring Camera)

The system shows the driver’s attention level on the monitor using color-coded indicators. When required, an audible alert is used to draw the driver’s attention. By using the estimated attention level, the system also issues distance warnings at an earlier stage as the driver’s attentiveness decreases.
【Equipped on vehicles: 734】

Driver Emergency Response System

This system automatically moves the vehicle to the roadside if the driver becomes unable to operate the bus due to sudden illness or other emergencies on regular roads. If an abnormal situation occurs while the bus is in operation, the system is activated either by the driver pressing a switch on the dashboard or by a passenger pressing the emergency brake switch located at the front upper area of the passenger cabin. The vehicle then applies the brakes, gradually reduces speed, and comes to a safe stop.

GPS-Equipped Digital Tachograph

Vehicle operation status is managed using a GPS-equipped digital tachograph. Driver and vehicle information during operation is monitored in real time through GPS devices.
【Equipped on vehicles: 496, 599, 553, 647, 734, 678, 434】

Drive Recorder

A drive recorder is an in-vehicle device that records video and audio. In addition to recording footage in the event of an accident, it automatically saves video when an impact is detected, such as during a collision or sudden braking.
